TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:

Music can meet many needs in our lives, and learning to play music can only enhance its effect. Music can provide entertainment and joy, but it can also work as therapy and provide relief. Learning to play music teaches discipline and self-control. It also allows us a unique way to connect and join with others. When I think about the skills I developed through music lessons over the year, I am thankful I began my journey so early and hope I can provide the same beginning for many children through teaching.

MY BACKGROUND:

I earned my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and Music, and my master’s degree is in Teacher Leadership with a P-12 Reading Endorsement. I recently completed my second master’s degree, or Rank 1, in Supervisor of Instruction. I taught 2nd and 5th grades in Boone County for nine years until my daughter was born in 2020.

My musical background includes beginning piano lessons at age five and voice lessons at age nine. I enjoyed making music in choirs from elementary school through college. I started college as a music education major but switched to general elementary education in my 2nd year. While in college, I completed a music and children’s ministry internship at a local church.

Teaching and music have always been a part of me. I am thrilled to use my skills and talents at Union Music Academy.

WHEN I’M NOT TEACHING:

If I could be doing anything, I would travel; ideally, in a tent at a national park or a house on the beach. Unfortunately, most of the time, I am not, and even though I love to travel, I am content at home with my husband and daughter. I enjoy reading, listening to podcasts, trying to garden, and taking my daughter to activities.
