TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:
My teaching philosophy is that music is truly for everyone. All ages, all abilities, everyone! Music has proven itself to be a tool that is truly accessible to everyone at every stage of their lives. There’s mountains of research demonstrating the benefits of participating in and creating music in every age and every ability, and everyone deserves access to those opportunities. Music is also a valuable gift that shows its value in multiple areas of life, from STEM studies, to emotional regulation skills, and even gross and find motor skill development. During my time of teaching music, I have had the privilege of teaching students of varying ages and abilities, and for each and every single one of them I have seen the myriad of benefits that music provides for them in their lives.
MY BACKGROUND:
I was always deeply into music as a child. I have memories of playing outside singing Disney songs at the top of my lungs and annoying all of my neighbors! I played piano as a child, and still do a bit to this day. I became the quintessential “band kid,” and I played clarinet all throughout middle school and high school. I then went on to obtain my Bachelors in Instrumental Music Education at Northern Kentucky University in 2013. From there, I taught K-4 Music at Mt. Orab Elementary in Mt. Orab, Ohio for six years (2014-2020). I also served as the assistant marching band director at Western Brown High School for three years, and worked on staff for the marching band for five years in total. In 2020, I left teaching to become a stay at home mom.
While I’ve spent a considerable amount of time in the classical music world and marching band world, working with young kids is where I feel the greatest joy. Seeing the excitement that young kids experience when creating spectacular and enjoyable music is an irreplaceable joy that I am lucky to get to experience with them.
WHEN I’M NOT TEACHING:
When I’m not teaching, I am probably spending time with family. My husband of 12 years and my son are my two favorite people in the world, and hanging out with them is hands down my favorite thing to do. I’m also a long time lover of video games, particularly of the Nintendo variety. I also love listening to audiobooks, writing, crafting (mostly embroidery), cooking, and watching anime.
